6 Performance and Stylistic Strategies for the Jazz Guitarist
The complete jazz guitarist should feel comfortable playing duo, trio, quartet, or larger ensemble performance settings. Also, the musicians you encounter, on the stage or in the session, may have a more traditional approach, or bebop approach, or may lean towards a more modern approach using contemporary harmonic techniques.

All of these settings require a variety of performance strategies to best fill your role as the guitarist. Sheryl Bailey's Jazz Standard Approaches will pass on six optimal strategies and approaches for the most commonly encountered settings and stylistic feels.

”We'll work through six studies, each of which addresses a different approach to duo and trio playing textures, as well as different stylistic aesthetics from bebop to modern, and ways to practice motivic ideas that will develop chops and continuity in your lines.

Each study begins with a unique situational arrangement approach, and then we'll put that approach to work in a performance study over a jam track, which I'll break down for you highlighting all the key concepts and techniques you need to know along the way.

Each performance study is centered around the changes to the popular jazz standard “Solar” so that the harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic DNA remains consistent, while further highlighting the unique performance and arrangement approaches at play.“

For each of the approaches, Sheryl will first explain the how, why and when to use it. She will then play an example, over a backing track, for musical context followed by a detailed breakdown. You can practice by playing along with her and then playing over the backing track by yourself.

You'll get standard notation and tabs for all of the playing examples and performance studies. Plus, you'll be able to use TrueFire's learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson.

You can also loop or slow down any of the videos to work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are also included as well.
