Course Summary

► Enhancing playback and performability – Synth & Found Sound Instruments

Going deeper into Sampler’s functions to enhance the material, giving it more life, dynamic and making it more interactive to performer input. The Pitch/Osc, Filter/Global, Modulation, and MIDI tabs will be explored.

► The Modulation Oscillator (Osc)

Sampler features one dedicated modulation oscillator per voice, which can perform frequency or amplitude modulation (FM or AM) on the multisample. This can be used subtlety as in vibrato, or in the extreme ways to add additional harmonics, character, and alter the waveshape of the original material with powerful and dynamic processes.

► The Pitch Envelope

The pitch envelope modulates the pitch of the sample over time, as well as of the Modulation Oscillator, if it is enabled. A pitch envelope is an incredibly powerful feature and is an essential sound design tool every powerful synthesiser is equipped with. We look at basic applications such as pitch bend and move on to more advances processes such as drum sound design and experimental sound transformation.

► First steps in creating a Multisampled Instrument.

Exploring the Sampler device’s Zone and Sample tabs – Importing Samples, Setup of sample playback, Mapping key and velocity zones

► Exploring Loop modes

Sampler has many powerful ways to affect the playback of samples. A detailed explanation of this functionality is explored.

► Working with synth samples and found sounds

So far we have the basics of a multisampled instrument made with acoustic samples. Now we will create two more based on samples recorded from a synth, and found sounds. This explores a slightly different approach in configuration. With this done it will give us more to work with when explore the synthesis features within Sampler.

► Enhancing playback and performability – Acoustic Instrument

Going deeper into Sampler’s functions to enhance the material, giving it more life, dynamic and making it more interactive to performer input. The Pitch/Osc, Filter/Global, Modulation, and MIDI tabs will be explored.
