Glitchmachines - SKEIN FM Synth

Skein features 4 operators with skew controls and noise, as well as a flexible modulation matrix with per-cell modulation, per-operator feedback and eight user-definable algorithm presets. Key parameters can be targeted by numerous modulation sources such as 4 LFOs with 15 wave shapes, 4 modulation sequencers with various utilities and up to 32 steps, and 4 multi-mode envelopes. Much like our other creative audio plugins, we’ve taken an unconventional approach with Skein. Instead of replicating the classic digital FM synths of the past, we set out to create a new instrument that is primarily focused on sound design and sonic experimentation. With a multitude of powerful modulation sources and a variety of processors such as distortion, bit crusher, chorus, phaser, delay, reverb and buffer effects, Skein is capable of generating an incredibly diverse and expressive range of tones and timbres.

Enchanted Thailand & Burma

David Starfire and Black Octopus Sound have teamed up to create a new brand of sample packs called Loops For Good where 10 % from each pack goes to a grassroots charity for those in need.

The first pack from Loops for Good, “Enchanted Thailand & Burma”, features sounds that were recorded when David traveled to South East Asia to produce his Karuna album. There are over a million Burmese refugees living in Thailand due to the ongoing political crisis in Burma/Myanmar. David collaborated with local musicians to learn about their culture and to support this underprivileged community. All of the musicians featured in this pack were paid for their art and we’re donating 10% of net proceeds to the Thai Freedom House in Chiang Mai that will go towards educational programs for Burmese refugee children.

Included in this one-of-a-kind sample pack is a variety of unique instruments from the region including native drums, gongs, flutes, xylophone, fiddle, harp, cymbals, and vocals. Even the names of some of the musicians who played the instrument are included. This is the first pack that features the sought-after signature sounds from David Starfire’s personal collection of Drum Hits, Basses, and Ableton Instrument racks which will take your electronic dance music or hip hop productions to the next level!

This sample pack is full of charm and enchantment and is beautifully produced, mixed, and mastered by David Starfire. Due to it being largely recorded in refugee camps, temples, and field recordings, this pack has a unique character that studio-produced sample packs can’t replicate.

tim exile - scapeshift

Scapeshift is a generative groovebox and sequencer. I started building it in a hospital bed as a tool to soundtrack videos. I was documenting my recovery from major cancer surgery and I wanted a tool that would be fast and flexible and output ready-mixed music.

But I’ve ended up using it for way more than that. It’s become an inspiration machine that can take me all the way to a finished track. I’ve already written and released a full EP with it. Right now I’m listening to it in Wander mode, getting my mind melted as it weaves through continuous variations.

At its heart, it’s a machine designed for evolving, morphing and cross-pollinating rhythms, melodies and textures. The results can stand alone as finished tracks or be used to complement a production in your DAW or DAWless setup.

Unlike your DAW, which reads out static sequence data, everything Scapeshift generates is controlled by continuously adjustable parameters. It can do some cool things your DAW can’t. You can morph continually between two completely different patterns, cross-breed multiple patterns or create themes to generate infinite variations on a style.

It comes with 12 themes which get you started with one click. It can feel a bit like using AI, but unlike AI you can then precisely tweak the parameters of what it generates and make it your own. And it does all of this without using gigawatts of power and stolen data.
