Oak Lane is a special sample pack created by grammy award winning producer Elvin “Wit” Shahbazian putting on display what has been a huge part of his sound, using a sampler as his instrument and canvas. With source material from many of the unreleased compositions that the Soul Surplus team has created he was able to mould new sounds and progressions with still a very classic hip hop approach.

Full of rich texture baked to perfection with sound quality that is inspiring and creative. This special release feature’s compositions created by Soul Surplus’ own “42North,” the brother production duo who had a hand in starting the label. Mirage consists of ten melodic loops full of vintage musical movements, spacious droning elements along with that good old warm and gritty tape saturated texture. Everything from floating electric piano accents, moving bass lines and majestic synth patches give producers endless options for chopping and flipping. Mellodramatic is a sample pack inspired by modern boom-bap styles of the 2020’s. While boom-bap has its roots in the 90’s, it is alive and well thanks to producers like Hit Boy and Boi 1da. With it’s dark tones, pitched vocal grunts, and haunting pianos, this pack will engage those creative juices when looking toward more traditional hip hop rhythms with a modern twist. This pack features 15 Melodic Loops with stems, and dozens of keyboard and synth one-shots for custom track creation!

Live Room is a Soul Surplus release inspired by the magic that happens when instrumentalists are captured in a recording studio. From jam sessions to recording individual instrumentalists, the sound ‘the room’ gives to a recording is unparalleled. The Legacy//Smythe Sample Pack features John Smythe, the talented producer and multi-instrumentalists who has amassed quite a catalog of executive produced titles in the Soul Surplus library. His technique and sound have become a standard and staple on the label.

The Soul Surplus team traveled back to the legendary “Sound Factory Studios” in Hollywood to craft Hollywood Soul Vol 2, featuring soul and rand;b artists “Million Miles” and Aaron Camper. Legendary soul acts like the Jackson 5 and Marvin Gaye have graced this studio and they also inspired the creation and sound of this pack!

The Soul Surplus team had the opportunity to craft this special release at the legendary “Sound Factory Studios” in Hollywood. Everyone from the Jackson 5 to Marvin Gaye, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dolly Parton are just among a few of the iconic artists that have recorded at this studio. It was only right to channel the success from this space with the team and call this release “Hollywood Soul.”
