Approaching her instrument as a tool for sound design as much as a compositional element in the traditional sense, Guatemalan artist Mabe Fratti forces listeners to reconsider their preconceived notions of the cello and the kinds of sounds it can make. Throughout Cello Distortions, Fratti explores the myriad dimensions of the cello's tonal palette in all its physicality––staccato strokes, ricocheted bowing, tremolo harmonics––while embracing all manners of post-processing from overdrive to pitch-shifted reverb.
