The "pipa" is a traditional Chinese plucked stringed instrument similar to the Western lute.

The "pipa" is a four-stringed instrument with a pear-shaped soundboard. It has a short, curved neck with thirty frets that cover part of the soundboard, thus offering a great extension.

The dizi is a Chinese transverse flute made from bamboo reed. Sometimes it is also known with the numbers of di or Hengda and has some variants, such as the qudi and the Bangda.

The bawu is a Chinese wind instrument. Although shaped like a flute, it is actually a free reed instrument, with a single metal reed. It is played in a transverse (horizontal) manner. It has a pure, clarinet-like timbre and its playing technique incorporates the use of much ornamentation, particularly bending tones.
