Welcome to Ableton Live Workflow Hacks! This is the second of 3 courses that focus on workflow hacks. In this segment, we will look more in depth at workflow tips designed to help you progress your ideas further. After initial ideas have been put down into a project, this segment will primarily deal with developing and enhancing sounds, working quickly in Live's Arrangement view, and adding automation. By the end of this course, you will be able to add more polish to your sounds, efficiently add movement and interest to your tracks, and use key commands and loop brace edit commands to navigate the Arrangement much faster.

We will cover techniques that you can employ in Live's Session View, such as how to record, overdub, and live loop new parts without stopping the flow of the music. We will also take a look at some tricks for more efficient writing of MIDI parts, such as utilizing MIDI effects, step recording in MIDI notes, and making the most of Drum Racks to organize sounds and samples quickly.

The Vintage Folk Rock Kit is an awesome kit for a 60s / 70s Folk Rock or Indie rock sound. We used the engineering skills of the legendary engineer / producer Phill Brown (Laura Marling / John Martyn / Rolling Stones) whose indepth knowledge of recording bands during these years helped mould the sound of the kit. The Kit used was a beautiful old 1966 Ludwig Hollywood kit and it was setup by legendary drumtech Martin Oldham. To direct us on the sound of the kit we used Folk specialist drummer Martyn Barker (Rufus Wainwright, Richard Hawley, Katherine Williams) who sampled the kit using sticks, hotrods and brushes which effectively gives you three kits - nice!

The digital turn has created new opportunities for scholars across disciplines to use sound in their scholarship. They show how digital sound studies has the potential to transform silent, text-centric cultures of communication in the humanities into rich, multisensory experiences that are more inclusive of diverse knowledges and abilities. Drawing on multiple disciplines—including rhetoric and composition, performance studies, anthropology, history, and information science—the contributors to Digital Sound Studies bring digital humanities and sound studies into productive conversation while probing the assumptions behind the use of digital tools and technologies in academic life. In so doing, they explore how sonic experience might transform our scholarly networks, writing processes, research methodologies, pedagogies, and knowledges of the archive. As they demonstrate, incorporating sound into scholarship is thus not only feasible but urgently necessary.
