BREATHING AND THE VOICE explores the remarkably subtle and intricate design of the human voice and how it serves as an instrument of expression. In this course we will break down some of the key vocal systems, making sense of how they work and demystifying what can seem, to non-vocalists, to be a daunting and complex topic.

COURSE OVERVIEW: This is a 15-hour series consisting of 20 pre-recorded video lessons. Students will be guided through both theoretical content and experimental self-study to explore how the voice works. Course topics will include: the anatomy and mechanics of breathing; the design and function of the larynx; the muscles of the throat; and the relation of the voice to posture and overall coordination. We will focus on how to produce sound effortlessly, and explore the ways in which we cause our own vocal problems, opening up the possibility of vocalizing at a greater level of consciousness. The course will pay special attention to the whispered "ah" as a central element in learning to use the voice in a coordinated way.

This is a highly practical course, and students will spend a lot of time learning how to use various positions of physical support – including the semi-supine position and sitting – to bring about better coordination, to facilitate observation of harmful habits of vocal use, and to practice the skill of effortless vocal production.

Toontrack Session Legend EBX

Session Legend EBX is a sound expansion for Toontrack's EZbass, built around a sampled mid-1980s four-string electric bass with a P/J pickup configuration. The instrument was recorded across finger, pick, palm mute, and slap articulations, covering a tonal range from B0 to E4. Both DI and amplified signal paths are provided for flexible signal routing in the mix.

The expansion targets producers and session musicians working in rock, pop, R&B, gospel, and related styles where a versatile electric bass is needed. Because it operates within EZbass, it integrates with that platform's MIDI editing, pattern browser, and chord-following engine. The included MIDI content covers common bass patterns and riff-oriented lines across those genres.

The P/J pickup configuration gives the instrument a wider tonal range than a standard P-bass or J-bass sample alone: the P pickup supplies a stronger fundamental and midrange weight, while the J pickup at the bridge adds definition and upper-harmonic clarity. The 20 included presets span from clean and bright to dark and saturated, giving a range of starting points without requiring outboard processing

Toontrack LA Sessions SDX

Toontrack has released the LA Sessions SDX, an expansion for Superior Drummer 3 recorded at The Village in Los Angeles by producer, engineer and mixer Niko Bolas. It brings together nine kits sourced from working session drummers, captured across four distinct room setups within the studio. We have the details.

Niko Bolas recorded the expansion in four different spots across two rooms in Studio D at The Village in Los Angeles.

The library includes eight drum kits comprising a total of 14 kicks, 14 snares, 27 toms, 21 cymbals and four sets of hi-hats.

A ninth kit is a curated drum and percussion combo sampled with hands and mallets, featuring djembes, klong yaw, doumbeks, tablas and djun djun.

Several of the kits are personally owned by session drummers, including Kenny Aronoff, Steve Jordan, Denny Fongheiser, Charley Drayton, Anthony LoGerfo, Russ Kunkel and Stella Mozgawa.

Toontrack says the kits cover a tonal range from subtle jazz and acoustic pop to rootsy singer-songwriter and edgy rock.

Four room configurations are included: Piano Spot, Studio Floor, The Riser and Vocal Booth.

The expansion ships with a collection of MIDI grooves built specifically for the included kits.

It includes 45 mix-ready presets engineered by Bolas.
